TO MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS IN NEW MEXICO:

Dear Colleague,

I am the Commander of the New Mexico State Guard Medical Detachment.  We are looking to expand the detachment around the state.  I believe we have a worthwhile task and I am looking for my fellow “busy” PAs.

I am told that if you need someone for a job, find someone who really does not have the time.  If you can show them how the job will touch them or those they care about in a beneficial way, they will create the time they need to get the job done.

Our primary mission is to provide direct support to the New Mexico Army National Guard in there tasking of performing annual physical exams and post-deployment health assessments for over 3000 Guardsmen and women, statewide.  This tasking takes us to several armories around the state throughout the year.

Our secondary tasking is to provide on-call medical support to other state agencies as requested by the Governor.  Last year, we provided support to the Albuquerque Community Emergency Response Team at an evacuation-staging center for the Tajique fire on the eastern side of the Monzano Mountains.  We participated in the 2008 Carlsbad Emergency Management Exercise.  This past May, we were on stand-by for a similar detail in Cloudcroft.

What does the State Guard require of you?   A desire to contribute to the security of the state and to the nation.  A desire to provide essential services to your community and state.   A commitment to attend monthly drills/training for one year.

The State Guard offers you an opportunity for you to use your professional skills for the benefit of the citizens of New Mexico.

Please give membership in the Medical Detachment, New Mexico State Guard due consideration.  I will be happy to talk with you and answer any questions that you may have. You can reach me by writing to me at john.roberts@nmsg-mil.org and if you leave me your phone number I will call you.

Respectfully,

CPT John R. Roberts, PA-C

Commander, Detachment 4, NMSG
